ReStock Economies of scale for micro enterprises

Note: ReStock was formerly known as Mobilize, the video linked still uses the former name, but the concept is the same.

ReStock is a data-driven logistics service that reduces food waste and operational expenses for all BOP stakeholders (producers, resellers and consumers) within Kenya’s fresh produce value chain.

ReStock’s aggregator & delivery platform enables micro-entrepreneurs (eg. market traders & roadside food vendors) to order and pay for stock through their mobile phones. The combined orders unlock bulk discount rates for resellers, whilst providing consistent demand for the smallholder producers. Local vehicle owners provide the last mile delivery service which saves the resellers a trip to the market, whilst also providing a new revenue source for the vehicle owner.

1. Margins on efficiency 2. Transaction fees on orders 3. Revenue share with last mile drivers

Inclusiveness

We involve low-income groups as consumers. We involve low-income groups as producers. We involve low-income groups as distributors. We involve low-income groups as employees.

It provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs and farmers operating within the BOP to participate in a more formalised economy.

The numbers need to be verified, but the intention of this pilot stage is: - Save micro-entrepreneurs an average of 20% on their operational expenses - Provide 150 farmers with fair prices for their produce - Reduce food waste/spoilage across the system by 30%. Once we have data from the pilot we will be able to estimate the global impact we believe this systemic change will have on micro enterprises operating within the BOP.
