CowTribe Africa When animals are healthy, we all gain

Every day millions of poor farmers in Africa struggle to access better veterinary care for their livestock. We want to change that.

CowTribe provibe on-demand access to veterinary doctors on a farmer’s phone. If a farmer’s cow, sheep or goat is sick, he doesn’t want to wait for several days to see for a veterinarian to come. He calls our hotline and send a vet doctor his way within 24 hours or less. We provide access to the national network of over 207 private and public veterinarians across Ghana. But we do more than just send vets to farmers. We also send SMS alerts to our farmers disease outbreaks and offering practical advice to farmers such as what symptoms they should look out for. The CowTribe platform was launched in April 2016 after a successful completion of a 12-month pilot. There are currently over 11,000 farmers from 97 communities subscribing to use the services on the CowTribe platform.

CowTribe works directly with the local farmers and in Ghana. With over 70% of these farmers living on less than US$1 a day, improving livestock health and security could dramatically improve incomes for a greater population. Farmers participate in our training, contribute to our knowledge base, disease surveillance and monitoring of our FarmShops.
