Growing Business Together (GBT) is a two-year project funded by the Dutch Government to support Ghanaian startups in Ghana and the Netherlands. As part of this program, IBA facilitated a business model canvas workshop for 13 entrepreneurs planning to start a business in Ghana. Saskia Rotshuizen, trainer at IBA, shares her experiences.
Working with early-stage entrepreneurs is always an exciting moment for me. Participants are keen to learn, passionate about their ideas and hungry for progress.
The GBT entrepreneurs did not miss the mark: they all arrived well in advance, fully ready to dive into the business model canvas. This ideation, strategy and visualization tool is well known by many, as it provides a common language for all to discuss a business idea. The canvas is also the basis of the IBA tools, used by IBA advisors in trainings and advisory services all around the world.
The energy of this diverse group of entrepreneurs carried us in a positive workflow all throughout the day, bringing in Ghanian cultural references, switching between English and Dutch, and sharpening each other’s pitches. From instant meal solutions to increasing access to insurance services, the business ideas cover multiple sectors and target groups.
This is just the first step in the GBT journey for these entrepreneurs – after experiencing their enthusiasm and dedication, there is no doubt that we will see some valuable businesses coming out of this program!
